One of the most popular excursion destinations in the Höllental area is undoubtedly the romantically wild Weichtal Gorge. Often only a few meters wide, it cuts through the west side of the Schneeberg from the Höllental valley floor up to the forest boundary. Good safety measures allow for an entertaining ascent to the Kienthaler Hut, which is frequently visited on beautiful weekends.
From the Weichtalhaus on the red-marked path northwards uphill into the wooded Weichtal ravine and there alongside the usually dry stream bed up to the entrance of the Weichtal Gorge flanked by high walls, 720 m. Through the gorge, over several ascents (iron ladders, clamps, chains, chiseled steps), in a varied ascent to the left-hand junction of the Ferdinand-Mayr Trail at the upper end of the gorge. Continue on the now red and yellow marked path to the Jakobsquelle. Initially still in the ravine, later left over a ridge towards the Turmstein and along the base of the wall to the idyllically located Kienthaler Hut on the saddle between Turmstein and Schneeberg, 1380 m. Return to the right turn of the yellow marked Ferdinand-Mayr Trail. Follow this (Trail no. 01) first along forest slopes, then down a steep ridge southwards to a lumberjack hut.
