History, idyll, romance or views: the wedding path in Vechta has a lot to offer. Various starting points for the hike can be chosen exclusively on paved paths, for example the pretty Bee Park. It is located between the Old Town Hall and the northern arm of the Vechta Moorbach. Passing the caponier, the tourist information and the train station, you reach the Citadel Park, Vechta's green lung and recreational area. The park was created as a partial reconstruction of the old fortification (1666) with moats. Highlights: the magnificent rose garden with the baroque pavilion, the viewing platform of the Friedrich-Christian Bastion with a view over the “Castrum Vechtense”, or the museum in the arsenal. The arsenal and the caponier are the only remaining buildings of the citadel, which was razed in 1769. And then you enter the wedding forest: since 1989, trees (winter lime, bird cherry, sweet chestnut or sweetgum) have been planted there on the occasion of a wedding or a wedding anniversary. More than 1000 have already been planted. How romantic.
