Although the path initially rises only moderately through light forest, from Neuhaus Castle it becomes steeper, passing shrubs and rock ledges, up to a small high plateau in an extreme location. The first part of the ascent path is simultaneously the cultural route of Gais, officially opened in 2007.
Once arrived at the "Wechselebene" farm, one quickly forgets the effort and strain; a wonderful view over the Tauferer Valley and the Bruneck basin makes hearts beat faster.
The return path passes extremely exposed farms and very steep meadow slopes back to the valley. The destination is the village of Uttenheim, from where you can return to Gais by bus.
