For centuries, Warnemünde led a rather tranquil existence as a fishing village. The sandy beach, up to 150 meters wide, was considered more of a hindrance, but proved to be an important resource with the advent of tourism in 1821. So it is hardly surprising that the beach chair was invented in Warnemünde - today a symbol of German bathing culture on the North and Baltic Seas. In addition to one of the widest beaches on the German Baltic coast, this hike offers beautiful views from the western pier as well as forest and a natural paradise, especially for sand martins on the steep coast of Stoltera - a great contrast to the busy cruise port near the starting point.
From Warnemünde railroad station, we walk westwards towards the town center over the bridge at the harbour and immediately behind it turn right along the cobbled path to the right of the harbour (Am Strom) towards the lighthouse, past the 37 m high brick lighthouse and the striking "Teepott" building from 1968. Before the pier to the lighthouse, we turn left towards the beach or take a detour to the western pier with the green and white pier light.Along the shoreline of the wide sandy beach, we let our gaze wander over the Baltic Sea horizon and the row of houses in Warnemünde. The sandy beach with its strip of dunes becomes increasingly narrow and finally turns into a rocky beach with a steep coast behind it. An hour after the western pier, the Wilhelmshöhe restaurant with a viewing terrace is located on the left above the cliffs, which we will pass on the way back.About 1 km after Wilhelmshöhe, we turn left uphill before the left-hand turn of the shoreline at beach access 38 and
