The guided hike is focused on the "Wanfried Agreement" of September 17, 1945.
Visit the oldest border museum in Germany. The museum has a room of the exhibition dedicated to the Wanfried Agreement. On display is, among other things, a large model of the estate "Kalkhof" as well as the typewriter on which the treaty was written.
The hiking route leads you on the former patrol road over Hessian and Thuringian territory past the "exchanged" villages of Sickenberg and Asbach. Sickenberg has the formerly best-guarded cemetery of the GDR. The former service path of the East German border troops runs parallel to today’s "Green Belt." Part of your hike is also the "Path of History." You walk past border security installations into the "Green Belt" as Germany's longest biotope connectivity system.
