Along the hiking trail, 19 boards provide insight into Slevogt's life in Leinsweiler and the comparison of the artworks created there with the present reality. The starting point is the parking lot in front of the Slevogthof, which is unfortunately currently closed. Before you take the narrow path uphill to the Neukastel ruins, a short detour to Slevogt's grave is worthwhile. The view from the castle ruins over the Rhine plain is just one of many great vistas along the Slevogtweg. From the ruins, the trail continues to the Hexentanzplatz and the Wettereck. And of course, the so-called "Slevogt Rock" is part of the circular hiking trail. Slevogt often came here to enjoy the view and the tranquility. Now it goes over the ridge of the Föhrlenberg back to the Hexentanzplatz and the Slevogthof. Another loop of the trail finally leads into the picturesque wine-growing village of Leinsweiler, through Trifelsstraße, along the Weinstraße and through Kirchstraße back to the starting point, the Slevogthof.
Health tip:
Forest bathing allows you to experience nature intensively. The following mindfulness exercise gives you a taste.
- Stand under a larger tree and take a deep breath through your nose. What do you smell? Can you distinguish or describe the different scents? Take your time and repeat several times, also with closed eyes.
- Focus your gaze on the tree trunk. What structures and colors do you see? Why are there different colors? Are there other plants, moss, or lichens growing on the trunk? Do you see small animals and if so, which ones?
- Now close your eyes and touch the tree trunk. Maybe you can feel branches or leaves. Move your hands along the trunk towards the ground.
- Open your eyes and look upwards. What do you see? Try to put your impressions into words.
- Close your eyes again and listen to the sounds of the forest.
Then end the exercise.

Roadbook
At the starting point, the Slevogthof, you can look at the route again on a large board and possibly plan shortcuts. In addition, all information boards along the route are marked here, which inform you about Slevogt as a person and as a painter.
Along the path you will find numerous picnic spots with wonderful views that invite you to rest and refresh.
Max Slevogt shows you the way; simply follow the trail markings of the Slevogtweg. It starts behind the Slevogthof with a detour to the family grave. Here lie the family of his wife Antoine "Nini", the Finkler family, as well as Max Slevogt himself.
Now return along the same route back to the Slevogthof. Here turn right onto the Palatinate Wine Trail. To make the detour to the Neukastel castle ruins, follow the markings and turn right. From the viewing platform, the only remnant of the castle, you have a wonderful view over the Rhine plain and the sea of vineyards of the Southern Wine Route.
Continue along the path to the Hexentanzplatz/Förläcker. Here you leave the Palatinate Wine Trail and take the path that leads you northwest. (If you only want to take a short loop, you can also follow the path southeast here. This will bring you back to the Slevogthof (short loop).)
Next, continue to the Wettereck, a viewpoint with resting places, from where there is a beautiful view of the three castles Trifels, Anebos and Münz. The path now leads you up the Föhrlenberg a bit to a point called "Engel's Landing." Here turn right to make the detour to the "Slevogt Rock" (partly challenging). From here you again have a nice view of the three castles. Slevogt often came to this place and let himself be inspired by the view.
Now return back to "Engel's Landing" and then turn right towards the southeast. (Hikers with stamina can also take the shortcut straight ahead). After 200 m turn left, at the next opportunity turn right again and thus enter a small curve going up to the Föhrlenberg. Pass the take-off point of the paragliders "Duddefliecher," here keep left. After another 200 m you reach another path, which you follow to the right heading west. (Shortcutters can turn left just a few meters later. This path leads steeply zigzagging back to the Hexentanzplatz.)
After a few meters at the fork, follow the left hiking trail and turn left at the next intersection, heading east. This path leads you back to the Hexentanzplatz. Continue southeast back to the Slevogthof (medium loop). Once there, keep right and follow the Palatinate Wine Trail again, which leads you downhill into the village.
Here, first follow Slevogtstraße, which turns into Trifelsstraße. Pass the Kneipp basin down to the town hall. Here turn left into Weinstraße and a few meters later left again into Kirchstraße, which leads you past Martinskirche and back out of the village in zigzag up to the Slevogthof.
