A walk around the peninsula on which the Seeon monastery sits.
For the first time in about 50 years, visitors to Seeon Monastery can enjoy the idyll of the cultural and educational center in full again. A new circular path around the monastery has been created, offering magnificent views of the surroundings. For a long time, no walk around the monastery was possible because the so-called "Kramerhaus" next to the church was privately owned until 2014. The owner family had fenced their property and planted a high hedge. Then the district of Upper Bavaria, which also owns Seeon Monastery, bought the private house including the land. The walking path around Seeon Monastery was then refurbished and maintained. The surface was improved and is now more comfortably walkable. The hedges were trimmed so that the view of the surrounding area up to the district of Bräuhausen and the church apse became free. The property of Seeon Monastery covers 3,500 square meters. "In summer, the walk around the monastery becomes even more beautiful," says Gerald Schölzel, managing director of the cultural and educational center. "Because we have also created flower meadows along the path, which are mowed only three times a year." Thus, Seeon Monastery has created not only a highlight for visitors but also a habitat for bees and other insects. The work on the circular path is not finished yet. Next year, the surface will be optimized again. The path is then to be completely barrier-free accessible.
