A picturesque village street, a magnificent panoramic view over the island, North Sea and Wadden Sea, and a varied route through the dunes, partly off the beaten path, make the long crossing more than worth it.
From the ferry dock in Vlieland, we turn left into Dorpsstraat. At the community center on the left, we turn right (signpost: Vuurtoren), cross the square, pass the church and turn left on the street. Then we take the first path on the right, but do not follow the brick path up to the lighthouse, instead turn immediately right onto the first sandy path (sign "Voetpad"), then at the top turn left towards the lighthouse on the Vuurboetsduin. We circle it halfway and follow the yellow-red marking down a gravel path. The first path on the right leads to the "Uitzichttoren" (viewing tower). Shortly after, stairs lead up to this small tower on the right. However, we continue straight and turn right onto a bike path. At the bottom, we cross another bike path and follow a narrow path that soon offers a beautiful view across a plain to an isolated, high hill, the Kooispleklid.
