(1) Climb back towards the road and head away from the bridge. Pass in front of the campsite and turn right into the beautiful shaded avenue, then left to climb back toward the road. Observe the washhouse of Font Chaton. Then take the Distilleries Road on the left - descend for a round trip down the left ramp to discover the old washhouse. Upon return, continue left.
(2) At the crossroads, take the Route des Grands Champs straight ahead. Continue always straight on the Chemin des Combes. On the left, you can see the silos located at the old station and the buildings of the old tannery.
(3) Turn left when you reach the Route de Chez les Rois and again left at the next street. Cross the D7 to reach the 18th-century Logis housing the town hall.
(4) Climb the steps, go down to the left to pass in front of the church. Descend to the left the alley that leads to the Charente. Follow the right bank of the river for 1 km.
(5) Turn right before the power lines. Notice the washhouse when arriving at the road. Cross to take straight ahead the Venelle des Amelins. At the end, follow the road to the right.
(6) At the fork, leave the road for the white path on the right. Notice on the climb the ditches carved into the rock.
(7) Turn right behind the house. Go straight ahead until the Carrefour de la Croix Chevalière.
On the plateau, a magnificent panorama of hills planted with vines is offered to the hiker; on the right stands the bell tower of the church of Saint-Simeux.
(8) Veer left. Ignore a path leaving on the right and continue to the hamlet of Brandes - beautiful Charentais gate. Take right and immediately left to follow the Voie des Champignonnières.
(9) At the end, take straight ahead the Venelle du Vieux Puits – which is located off the route on the left in the grassy path at the village exit.
Continue to the right along the Chemin des Puits - these are ventilation wells for the mushroom farms. Follow the vineyards.
(10) Turn right at the corner of the woods and walk to a road. Take straight ahead the Route de Chante Alouette.
(11) At the crossroads, turn left into the white path that climbs towards Cheville: notice the stones that fence the first house of the village. Turn left at the Stop and immediately right into Rue des Groizilliers.
(12) In the curve of Rue du Point de Vue, veer left into Chemin des Vignes, first paved with stones, then grassy. Descend to the intersection.
(13) Turn right. Follow to the right the Route de l’Ageasson up to the gas station.
(14) Turn left to descend towards the Charente.
(15) Follow the towpath on the right. The marker placed on the gabarriers' path by the Municipal Youth Council indicates 2.5 km to the nautical base.
Off the route, see the left bank lock after the bridge.
