Stroll through the Villanders Tundra

What would Villanders be without its alpine meadows? Without the seemingly endless high plateau with its meadows, krummholz, and moor pools, reminiscent of a Nordic tundra? The Villanders Alm is, of course, a wonderful hiking area (and a cross-country skiing area in winter). And the culinary well-being of nature lovers is also taken care of: Landscape experience, including refreshments.

From the parking lot at Sambergerhof (1500 m), follow the asphalt road about 500 meters, then turn right onto the forest road, which – partly with a beautiful view of the Dolomites – ascends to the Gasserhütte (1744 m). Then continue rather gently uphill; to the west and north stretches the wide, gently rolling Villanders Alm with its krummholz and moor areas. At a particularly scenic spot stands the Mair (Moar) in Plun (1860 m), a popular refreshment stop. The Langkofel massif, which so strikingly closes off the Seiser Alm, is a highlight; further right are the peaks of the Rosengarten above the broad Schlern ridge. Then briefly back towards Gasserhütte, then left (signpost) close to the edge of the terrain high above the wild ravine of the Thinnebach valley. The mountain stream has repeatedly caused severe damage in Klausen. Exactly to the north stands the frequently climbed Kassianspitze (2581 m). The Rinderplatzhütte (1799 m) is also popular, just 20 minutes from the Mair in Plun.
