Varied and ultimately scenic hike in a karst-infused landscape, where during the week we are very unlikely to encounter another soul and where, not far from the metropolis of Split, a natural spectacle of the highest quality is offered. In the no-man's land of a vanished culture, nature spreads wherever it can. Where cultivation has been abandoned, geckos now rustle in the maquis, butterflies dance in the air, and in spring the flora thrives on the calcareous soil. At the summit, the bright red bivouac tower (Vickov) makes a statement in the wilderness.
We start at the bus stop at a distinctive hairpin bend in Sitno Gornje, from where we head northwest past parking lots along the paved road called Sveti Kuzme to its end. Here, according to the sign »Dom Umberto Girometta«, a gravel path turns sharply to the right. At the second junction, our route goes steeply to the left (red-white marking on the right edge of the path). We climb upward on stone steps through karst fields. At the following saddle, we keep right; to the right is the option of a detour to the viewpoint Vidilica. Our route continues straight on the main path, then after a left bend through a cozy pine forest, shortly after a small plateau is the mountain hut Umberto Girometta, 863 m, equipped with outdoor benches. We continue along the long side of the hut. After a few steps, follow the sign »V. Stup« going up to the right. At the crossroads marked with an X, we keep straight ahead. The summit is visible far above, the small tower with the red roof is barely discernible.
