Scenic circular hike along a steep rock face.
From the village of Plars near Algund, take the chairlift up to Vellau (966 m; accessible by car as well) and then the gondola lift further up to Leiteralm (1522 m; guest services). From the alm, follow marking 24 and the signposted "Merano High Path" on the Hans-Frieden-Weg eastwards with a gently descending forest crossing to a steep mountain ravine, then continuing mostly level through sunny steep slopes to the Steinegg guesthouse and from there a short descent to the Hochmuth guesthouse (1351 m; mountain station of the cable car from Dorf Tirol); from Leiteralm about 1 1/2 hours. From Hochmuth now take the Vellauer rock path (Mark. 22) equipped with holding chains westwards with a flat to moderately steep descent partly through open rocky and partly wooded steep slopes back to Vellau; from Hochmuth about 1 hour.
