The route hike, recommended from spring after the snow melts until late autumn with the first frost, runs over beautiful alpine meadows. Due to their variety of flowers, these meadows are a feast for the eyes for hikers; the intense scent of the mountain flowers provides rich nourishment for various insects. At the same time, the mowed and dried grass is used for fragrant hay baths and to feed animals. Gentian, anemones, pasqueflowers, crocuses, soldanellas, helleborines, spotted gentian, orchids, alpine roses, skullcap, and many others bloom in spring and summer. Countless species of small animals find their habitat here. The higher you climb, the greater the chance of encountering deer and chamois. The Lobiser Schupfen are a collection of hay barns that have been lovingly restored in recent years. The so-called Sauwipfel is a wooded small summit with a bench inviting you to rest. The Mayrhofer Alm is not a farmed alpine pasture, but cattle are found grazing the meadows. The "sleeping huts," where the actual vegetation trail ends, are wooden huts once used for cooking and overnight stays during hay work. They are surrounded by stone pine forest, inviting you to stay and offering a good view of the Tauferertal.
Author’s recommendation
The path can also be hiked in the reverse direction;
Grocery store at the starting point possibly for provisions;
Great view of the Rieserferner group with Hochgall, Wildgall, Schneebiger Nock, Lenkstein;
The route hike can also be done as a circular route, but this requires about 2:30 hours; starting point Rein, in Ahornach by the Gasteigerhof the path No. 10 branches off and leads back on an easy trail to the starting point;
The hike begins at the village church of "Rein in Taufers." Directly behind the nearby inn are the corresponding hiking signs. The path gently ascends on a well-maintained trail, partly along a forest road through woods and meadows, partly on alpine paths, following trail No. 10 to the "Lobiser Schupfen." Here, our path turns left, but shortly afterwards the direction turns right uphill to the "Saugipfel." This is where the actual vegetation trail begins. Upon reaching the Mayrhofer Alm, the path turns southwest and winds gently up and down towards the "sleeping huts." The final part, first No. 6 A, then 10 B, leads directly into the village of "Ahornach." In the village itself, there are two bus stops almost next to each other, both directly at the church and at the fire station.
