Unione dei Comuni Valli Taro e Ceno
Loop route equipped with white and red trail markers and the indication A3 ANELLO DI VALLESCURA.
From the center of Bore, passing Monte Costaccia which at 929 meters towers over the town, head towards Bocchette Sette Sorelle to embark on a long and pleasant walk in the calm of nature towards a steep climb along the ridge of Monte Carameto. Here awaits a breathtaking 360° panorama over the Val Ceno, Val d’Arda, and the Po Valley. The area features significant light and dark layered outcrops of calcareous marl which geologists call “Flysch ad Elmin-toidi”, marine-origin rocks formed during the Late Cretaceous (about 70 million years ago).
The ridge continues descending towards la Vallescura passing near the ancient fortification of Rocchetta di Vallescura, where the primitive Ligurian populations built a fortress to control the valley, which at the time was a passage zone from the north to Tuscany and Liguria and often attacked by the Hungarians.
This is one of the most significant fortified settlements in the area, flourishing since the late 9th century and shaping an important military landscape.
The descent continues to Villa Zermani, a place that preserves little of its past due to landslides in the area, but it is possible to admire a portal with local sandstone blocks. From Zermani the road climbs again up to the hamlets of Salvi and Franchi to return to the starting point.
