A descent hike – short, not very strenuous, varied and with opportunities for refreshments: these are almost ideal conditions when traveling with children. As wonderful viewing spots, we first reach Sassal Masone (with guesthouse), then Pru dal Vent, just above the Puschlav and with a magnificent view of the small but shapely Paradisino group. Impressive are also the views back, for example, we see the Piz Palü from a less well-known side. In addition, we are always near one of the most exciting sections of the Rhaetian Railway, the stretch between Bernina Pass and the upper Puschlav. We then return by train. A much more demanding tour destination with an even greater view is the Piz Campasc. Caution with children: a stumble could have serious consequences! This summit variant is only advisable for experienced mountaineering parents who can properly secure their children if necessary.
From Hotel Ospizio to the Ospizio Bernina station – if you have not arrived by the Rhaetian Railway. Now along the tracks to the end of the lake (Scala, 2250 m), to the dam and to a junction. We follow the signpost to the right and ascend (short uphill) to the famous viewpoint Sassal Masone, 2355 m, restaurant. The descent is now a little steeper, then it continues comfortably to the left, crossing and shortly uphill to the Rhaetian Railway tracks. Over the tracks, then over a plateau to the next viewing spot Pru dal Vent, 2210 m, which is not inferior to Sassal Masone. Especially impressive is the view into the Puschlav and the surrounding peaks. From here continue to Alp Grüm (restaurant, 2091 m) and shortly down to Alp Grüm station. Those who are tired can board the train here. Otherwise, we descend further, shortening the Rhaetian Railway turns, and finally reach Cavaglia station, restaurant. Return to Ospizio Bernina station by Rhaetian Railway.
