The Vienna Woods are a popular destination for leisure hikers all year round. From the outskirts of the metropolis, you can quickly immerse yourself in nature and explore the dense network of trails. The Dombachgraben, the destination of this hike, is a beautiful little natural valley that is also attractive to visit when the weather is not so good.

This easy hike is a quick escape from the city. The start is on the edge of Schwarzenberg Park, which is worth a trip in itself. The park was once Austria's first English landscape garden.
After a short climb, you reach the Hameau, where Count Lacy created a refuge for himself in the 18th century, and several paths come together. The descent down to Weidlingbach via a rooty path can be a little challenging when wet. The path through the Dombachgraben itself leads along one of the 37 core zones of the Vienna Woods Biosphere Reserve, which are not used for agriculture or forestry. This unspoilt nature is noticeable when hiking and it is easy to imagine that the primeval forests of tomorrow are being created here.

Safety information
The descent from the Hameau is rooty and somewhat steeper. Take good care here!Roadbook
This hike starts in Schwarzenbergpark on one of Vienna's most beautiful avenues. We follow the avenue to the hiking trail, which takes us straight to the Hameau. At the other end of the clearing, the hiking trail down to Weidlingbach begins. Here we have to be careful not to follow the MTB trail, which is closed to hikers. At the bottom, we cross the Dombach stream and turn left onto the wide forest path. We follow this until the third bend and take a small trail that brings us back onto the path along the ridge very close to the Exelberg. We follow this for just under 1.5 km and then turn off onto a path branching off to the right, which takes us back to Schwarzenbergpark.
