From Interlaken-West train station, the path first crosses the Aare river to Unterseen, then continues on a varied shoreline path along the Aare to Lake Thun. Besides the sparkling waters, bright woodland areas and avenues with old trees, the Weissenau castle ruin, which is a protected monument, as well as the Weissenau-Neuhaus nature reserve are highlights. A larger section of the shoreline path now leads through this protected area – a park-like landscape with forest, groups of bushes, and open reed areas. This shallow shoreline zone with a large reed belt is especially attractive to water birds at Lake Thun, which usually has few flat shores, and over 200 bird species have already been recorded here. At the destination in Neuhaus, you can linger on the meadow or on benches and also stop by the local restaurant. There is also a boat landing of the Lake Thun shipping company.
