In 1996, Greina was designated as a protected zone in the Federal Inventory of Landscapes and Natural Monuments of national significance. However, this status has also contributed to the fact that today you rarely hike there alone. It is therefore worth spending at least one, if not more nights in one of the three huts spread around the high plateau. The early morning and late afternoon hours have a special charm, when visitors have left the extensive tundra landscape and nature has taken over with its own sounds. The three huts – Terri, Motterascio and Scaletta – are so well known that it is advisable to book in advance. The Terrihütte is located on the Bündner side on a small knoll, about half an hour below the Greina, offering a great view of the mighty bulk of Tödi. The Capanna Michela-Motterascio lies south of the Greina plateau beneath the western flank of the striking Piz Terri and slightly below a miraculous collection of stone cairns.
