The local mountains above Molde impress with their easily accessible hiking trails and views of the mountain range opposite the town: 222 peaks, some of which are snow-covered year-round, delight hikers.
The Tusenårsvarden was built at the turn of the millennium by the citizens of Molde, both young and old, and inside it contains greetings to future generations.
We begin our hike at the large hiking parking lot on the ridge of Varden above Molde. From here, it is about 120 m to the end of the road with the mountain restaurant Vardestua. Just behind it is the viewpoint Litlevarden. We walk back along the road and climb up to the small cabin Gamle Vardehytta. Above the cabin is the highest point of the Varden with an orientation panel about the surrounding mountain panorama. The hiking trail starting here leads over rocky and marshy (partly bridged with wooden planks) sections towards the radio mast on the hill located further north. Before reaching the hill, the path splits.The main route is signposted to the ski cabin and prepared with wooden planks over marshy sections. We take the left path leading to the hill with the mobile phone mast and rewarded with another panoramic view.
