The tour starts at the base of the artificially created, wild romantic waterfall from 1865 and initially leads us to the bergfried of the Wallenburg, built around 1200, which now serves as a viewing tower. We also have a beautiful view from the Mommelstein viewing rock. Through beech forest, we then return along the canal that feeds the 58 m high waterfall, and descend the steps right next to the water rushing over rocks.
Before we start the hike, it is worth taking a look at the Trusetal Waterfall as we will come from above later and see it in a different light. Then we leave parking lot P1 towards the country road, go left past the bus stop and cross the road where the path branches off on the other side, to follow it upwards to the right into the forest (sign: Besucherbergwerk Hühn 2.9 km). At the top, we pass a viewpoint with a waterfall view. After leaving the forest, we turn left onto the paved cross path (sign: Mommelstein 5.0 km) and shortly afterwards bear half-right (sign: 1.8 Turmbaude). A path leads us above the village Trusetal and ends at a cross path, where we turn left (sign: Wallenberger Turm 1.5 km). We pass a shelter and after a left turn reach the intersection at the closed Turmklause inn. Here we turn right, past the Turmklause, and climb the Hühnberg (513 m) up to the Wallenburg. Since it was used as a quarry for building Schloss Wilhelmsburg in Schmalkalden after its destruction
