We have to earn the wonderful views of the Kvabiskhevi Valley during the strenuous climb through the cool forest. Keep your eyes open during breaks: there’s a good chance to spot tracks of wolves or bears on the damp ground. But don’t worry, the park’s inhabitants are shy. When we hike down the dizzying descent into the valley and pass idyllic flower meadows by the Zemoti castle ruins, all efforts are forgotten. The Track Trail is the more varied and demanding alternative to the snowshoe tour.
The first 3 hours of the hike from the Likani ranger station past the bulldozer to the fork at 1780 m follow exactly the "Snowshoe tour" and the Nikolai Romanov trail. There the paths split. We turn left towards Kvabiskhevi and follow the yellow-white markings southwards. Soon wonderful views open up over the green forest of the national park, many beautiful spots invite you to rest. After 40 minutes of gentle descent, the steepest section awaits. We descend for 30 minutes through a light pine forest over a mountainside into the valley; shortly afterwards we reach the edge of the forest at 1215 m. We walk through the fairy-tale valley, in spring over meadows covered with flowers. Looking up to the right, we can make out the ruins of the small Zemoti fortress on a rock. After 25 minutes we turn left at the fork at 1080 m onto the gravel road. We walk along the river, crossing it several times, and reach the Kvabiskhevi ranger station (975 m) 40 minutes later. Just before the station
