The tour to the Torhelm – designed as a clever circuit – is definitely one of the most beautiful in the Gerlos valley. Here you are practically isolated from the developments of intense tourism, hiking in early summer above the Weißbachlalmen through a sea of alpine roses glowing deep purple, while being captivated by the mighty bulwark of the Brandberger Kolm. The literal highlight is the summit panorama: to the north through the Zillertal to the Rofan, in the backlight the jagged Reichenspitz group with the Venediger area behind it, and in the southwest the Mayrhofen mountain world with the Ahorn ridge wonderfully outlined. The Seespitz, shown as the main destination in earlier editions, here is only a topographically rather insignificant and slightly less rewarding outlook addition, which however offers the most difficult passage of the tour. Here a path starts on the right, which we follow through typical alpine rose terrain. You come into a small high valley and turn right at about 2100 m towards the Torhelm. With a loop onto the gentle eastern ridge and mostly only moderately steep up to the grassy summit of the Torhelm, 2452 m.To continue, we go briefly back over the upper slope until you can cross diagonally onto the south side of the eastern ridge on the marked trail. The easy downward traverse leads into the saddle flanked by the Seespitz. Mark Zahel
