The Staubfall at the border with Austria can enchant not only romantic souls. Especially after a summer thunderstorm, it often offers the spectacle of a rainbow. Before or after the tour, we have the opportunity – directly at the starting point – to take a look into the former life of the lumberjacks, whose arduous work has been honored with a museum in Laubau.
From the hiking parking lot at the lumberjack museum in Laubau we first walk 10 minutes straight ahead on the wide paved road towards the south, then turn right towards »Fuchswiese« until we meet the parallel forest road. There turn left and continue almost flat through the forest into the densely wooded Fischbach valley. Between the steep ridges with the notable names Fischbachkopf and Adlerkopf on the eastern side and Saurüsselkopf and Fischbachschneid on the western side, we hike to the end of the forest road (shelter). On the (up to here also accessible by mountain bike) Staubfall trail continue through the forest, soon turn left over a footbridge and steeply uphill in switchbacks towards Heutal (when the border to Austria was temporarily closed, smuggling was carried out here, e.g., also with livestock). Soon we reach the spraying Staubfall, whose water falls about 200 meters deep here. Using a well-constructed trail (with protective roofing) we walk under the cascading water jet,

Heinrich Bauregger, geboren 1951 im Berchtesgadener Land, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte (M.A.). Nach seinem Studium war er viele Jahre in Buchverlagen tätig (unter anderem auch beim Rother Bergverlag). Von Kindheit an in den Bergen wandernd unterwegs, lebte er seine Passion zunächst in den Alpen aus, dann folgten zahlreiche Trekkingtouren in den Bergen der Welt (Himalaya, Ostafrika, Mexiko, Anden). Schließlich entdeckte er die Abruzzen (Mittelitalien) als seine zweite Heimat („Tra Mare e Monti“). Heute lebt er abwechselnd in München und in Sulmona als freier Lektor und Autor. Er hat zahlreiche erfolgreiche Wander-, Rad- und Reisebücher verfasst.
