To the Devil's Mill

From Gernsbach Station, proceed to the Laufbachtal parking lot and the portal of the premium hiking trail "Gernsbacher Runde," which you now follow for a stretch. The peaceful Laufbachtal leads up to Loffenau. Shortly before Loffenau, turn right to the impressive Laufbach waterfalls. Above the village begins the more strenuous part of the route, which winds over the Bockstein and further along a small path to the Great Hole. From the location "Great Hole," a small detour on the left path to the Devil's Chambers is worthwhile. Back at the signpost location, now go left upwards. At the next fork, briefly stay left, then turn right towards the Devil's Mill. On the zig-zag path, it goes over the "Rear Illert" back down to the valley to Lautenbach. At the Illert chapel, cross the connecting road and follow the Old Wine Road back to Gernsbach.
