To Priesbergalm, 1460 m, from Königssee
Starting from Kessel, a hidden, idyllic peninsula on the eastern shore of the Königssee, we begin our tour. We ascend a steep forest slope via many switchbacks to the Gotzentalalm. After mastering the demanding Lower Hirschenlauf, our destination, the Priesbergalm, is reached. Here we can enjoy our snack amid colorful alpine meadows with a view of the Watzmann massif. On the way back, we follow the Königsweg, passing more alpine pastures and grazing cows, before floating down to the valley in the cable car.
From the Königssee parking lot, 605 m, we head to the lakeshore at Königssee, where the boats depart. We take a boat and inform the boat staff at the beginning of the crossing that we want to get off at the request stop Kessel, 605 m. This is important as this stop on a peninsula is only served on demand. On the small peninsula, a trail begins, leading us into the forest and ascending steeply in a southern direction. Those who listen carefully might be lucky to hear the trumpeting of the Königssee boats in the first section of our ascent. Otherwise, we quickly leave behind the tourist bustle of Königssee. The Kesselsteig was originally developed as a riding path for the royal hunts to the Gotzenalm. Today, not much of this can be seen along the narrow path. At about 800 m elevation gain, the riding path turns left after some switchbacks and runs along the steep forest slope to Gotzentalalm, 1115 m. Here our path meets a forest road that takes us in seven switchbacks through the forest
