Tiarno di Sotto - Rifugio Garda, 1708 m
The Passo Tremalzo is practically an artificial road crossing, which was only realized at the beginning of the First World War to supply positions in mountain warfare with materials and guns. On its northern side, a paved road now leads up to the southern escarpment. There is also the Rifugio Garda, which can be reached quite normally by car. The winding southern descent consists of a trail that nowadays – with few exceptions – may only be frequented by mountain bikers. It is probably one of the most popular routes for pedal knights. However, we ascend it quietly from the Val d’Ampola almost through the back door. Along the way, we also encounter numerous remains from the First World War. Most of the ascent leads through forest, in the upper area we can expect a lush flora in late spring and summer. As a small summit detour, we can still take the Monte Tremalzo with us; it is part of the new nature reserve "Parco dell’Alto Garda Bresciano".
Before the church in Tiarno di sotto, turn left into a narrow road, then immediately left again onto a narrow connecting path to the main road (SS 240); there turn right and after 150 m cross it and turn left onto the narrow paved road leading away on the side facing away from the village (signpost "Malga Casèt"). We now follow the red-white marked, soon unpaved path along the forest edge slowly uphill and always keep to the right. After 15 minutes, the path forks several times at a small farm. We take the right, now slightly steeper path. After another 15 minutes, we reach two old hay barns. There turn left onto the ridge and continue uphill through the forest. We always stay on the wide path, which then gradually narrows considerably. After an hour of walking, the path becomes almost level. Soon we reach trenches from the First World War at Cima Vai. Passing them on the right, until we meet a wide path leading up from the valley. We now follow the serpentine uphill keeping left until
