The extremely varied tour in the "Windecker Ländchen" leads to the Nutscheid with a magnificent view over the Sieg valley and heights, through the picturesque half-timbered village of Altwindeck with its castle ruins, to Dattenfeld and back along the Sieg riverbank in a beautiful river landscape to the waterfall in Schladern. The Windeck Castle was until its destruction at the end of the 17th century the southeastern stronghold of the Duchy of Berg. Before 1850, the ruin still towered directly over the Sieg – until the narrow Windecker Sieg loop was drained to facilitate the construction of the railway line. This created the Sieg waterfall.
From the station in Schladern, we follow the x marking to the right and turn into the street "Auf der Teichhardt". This bends to the right, then goes left into "Zum Sprietchen". Continually ascending, we reach the forest edge and turn half right into the forest opposite Bodenbergstraße. Past the cemetery, the path continues uphill, then straight ahead past the sports ground. At a fork with a bench, we leave the left curve going straight and at the next fork where the path with x marking swings right, we take the clearly visible narrow path straight ahead. This merges into a wide path on which we continue straight. In the upcoming right curve, we ascend straight on the path and go a few meters right on the crossing path to the intersection with bench and signpost. We follow x28 to the left and reach a clearing at the highest point of the tour, the summit of Bodenberg (296 m).
