The flat, strangely meandering forest paths above Cavo can certainly be shortened – but this would miss some touching landscape scenes between Capo Vita, the "North Cape" of the island, and Monte Grosso.
From the port of Cavo, walk north along the beach promenade (Lungomare Kennedy) towards the Capo Castello peninsula. At a junction, continue straight ahead towards "Spiaggia Frugoso, Cala delle Alghe" on Via Procchi. Shortly before the north beach, turn left onto Via Frugoso upwards, at the three-way split turn left (marking 260, dead-end sign) and take the flat gravel road above the sea towards Capo Vita. At a junction of a house driveway, stay left and continue over a left curve to the next fork: right uphill, again towards the cape and up and down through the partly wooded west side (Martella). Over another flat hairpin turn, reach a picnic area and take a short detour left to the Tonietti Mausoleum, 112 m. Return to the picnic area and now continue straight ahead on a narrow but signposted path into the forest, climbing beside walls and then gently downhill.
