Roadbook
You can start the 10-km loop in Holzhausen at the parking lot by the Nicolaus-August-Otto Museum, located right at the B260/B274 intersection. From here, the route continues along the B260 to the hiking parking lot at the roundabout, and then follows the Limes Hiking Trail to the ruins of the Holzhausen fort.
Then turn left onto a dead-straight stretch of “Hessenstraße” until just before Rettert. Here, we turn left and head into Rettert via Schulstraße onto Rheinstraße; follow this road to the left and, after a short distance, turn right onto “Hollermühler Weg.” This path runs along the Rettertbach stream to the forest swimming pool and campground in the Hasenbachtal valley near Holzhausen.
From here, the route continues straight ahead on a steady climb, passing under the B274 until we reach Holzhausen on “Am Traubersweg.” Behind the first house, turn left, then right onto Sauerbornsweg; follow the ring road to the left for a short distance, then turn right onto “Untere Brunnenstraße” and right onto Klosterstraße.
We follow this street until we reach Nicolaus-August-Otto-Straße (B274). On this road, we turn left again and, at the first opportunity, turn right onto a dirt road that passes behind the Protestant church and rejoins the B274 across from the parking lot at the Nicolaus-August-Otto Museum.

There are places to stop for refreshments in Holzhausen an der Haide, Rettert, and at the campground near the forest swimming pool in Holzhausen an der Haide. There are also two bakeries in Holzhausen.
However, you should always bring enough to drink with you on the trail. Whether you’re having a picnic on the grass or sitting on a bench, the food you bring along tastes especially good in the fresh air!
