Three-Cave Loop

This beautiful hike begins at the Bauerkamp hiking parking lot in Schlangen. Cross the country road and follow the signposted Höhlenweg trail toward Bielsteinhöhle. After about 2 km, you’ll reach the Bielstein Gorge. It’s on the left, slightly off the trail. Tip: First, walk up the trail for about 150 m; then, a small path branches off to the left toward the gorge. From there, you’ll have a beautiful view. Then continue following the Höhlenweg. After about one kilometer, you’ll reach the Lukenloch. The trail then curves slightly to the left and later crosses the country road again. One kilometer past the intersection with the country road, the Höhlenweg continues to the left and then merges with the Lönsweg (X10). After a short while, you’ll reach the Hohlsteinhöhle, which is worth a brief detour to the right off the trail. After another 500 meters or so, we leave the Höhlenweg, which turns left, and continue straight ahead on the Lönsweg. This section is a very beautiful old sunken path. Follow it all the way to the small village of Kohlstätt. In the village, turn left and walk about 500 meters. Then a small alley branches off to the left toward Schlangen (Note: it’s easy to miss). After turning left, the trail goes up a hill and passes under Federal Highway 1. Continue on the 3-Täler-Weg. Once you reach the top, you’ll have a great view of the Senne and the Teutoburg Forest if the weather is clear. Shortly after entering the forest, you’ll come to a junction of several hiking trails. There, turn right toward Bauerkamp. Just before reaching your destination, turn right once more. You’ll soon catch sight of the Bauerkamp Inn, where you can stop for a break. The trail leads down to the hiking parking lot on the right.
