As evidence of habitation at the Thieusies site during the Neolithic period, a time of the emergence of new techniques like ceramics and the advent of agriculture and livestock farming, tools such as chipped or polished axes, scrapers, burins, arrowheads in flint from black to beige were found. Traces of the Michelsberg culture were also found. Thieusies was the seat of several lordships, the main one successively belonging to the families of Thieusies, Launais, Ardembourg, and Marin.
In 1605, Philip the Handsome pledged to Jean de Hoghes the part of the land of Thieusies that belonged to him. There were the lordships of Saisinne, Roquette, Motte, the fief of Buecq, and the two lordships of Sirieux belonging to the House of Rœulx and the chapter of Nivelles. Thieusies was the site of an important battle on August 14, 1678: the Battle of Saint-Denis, an episode of the long wars undertaken by Louis XIV to secure the wealthy provinces of the Spanish Netherlands. Water was installed in Thieusies around 1900 by former mayor Jules Hachez, to whom the water monument situated at Place des Combattants is dedicated. For beer lovers, there once was a Desquennes brewery on Thieusies Square where the "Grisette de Thieusies" beer was made.
