Safety information
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures, caused by forestry work, hunting parties, or similar, on our hiking trails in the region on this platform.
Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we have not been informed.
Any hiker entering closed areas (barrier tape, "Caution Hunting", etc.), even on weekends, acts grossly negligently and is responsible for their own actions!
The hiking trail partly runs over narrow paths and rocks. Good footwear is required. Areas in the nature reserves are unsuitable for strollers!
Especially in autumn, note that fallen leaves can cover unevenness, roots, stones, or holes on the trail. Expect trail impairments of this kind when hiking. If you believe certain sections are impassable for you, you should bypass them. Especially in adverse weather conditions, natural trails may become muddy and slippery.

Wildlife & Raptor Zoo
An extensive visit to the "Potzberg" wildlife park and raptor zoo should not be missed during the hike. On an area of about 30 ha, stone and sika deer, red, fallow and mouflon deer, elk, wild boars and wild horses roam. There is also a breeding station for more than 120 birds of prey and a petting zoo. Four kilometers of circular paths open up the area and enclosures, and a free-span wooden bridge leads to the stand above the central feeding area.
The flight show takes place daily at 3 p.m., featuring eagles, vultures and falcons – especially for children on weekends to participate.
On request, the flight show is also available in English.
A visit to the Potzberg Wildlife Park with its unique flight show should not be missed. The rustic wooden hut of the wildlife park invites you to a cozy stop.
Potzberg Tower
On October 13, 1951, the foundation stone was laid for the current Potzberg tower. Instead of the considerably smaller Moser tower, on October 13, 1951, construction of the Potzberg tower began.
After only 39 working days, on December 2, 1951, the last stone of the tower was laid. The tower, built by the company Hanz from Glan-Münchweiler, had reached a height of 35 m and had a base area of 4 by 7 meters. On the platform, an 18.5 m high antenna of Südwestfunk was installed afterwards. In addition to the certificate in the foundation stone, another certificate with the names of all persons involved in construction was embedded. Three days after completion of the masonry work, the traditional bouquet was placed and the following dedication was proclaimed: "For two months we climbed you up to your dizzying summit, in pouring rain, in stormy flights, surrounded by mountain spirits and driving snow... Our handiwork shall preserve peace from natural forces, turmoil and war." After the shell was completed, master carpenter Alfred Cattarius from Bedesbach and his journeymen worked on the 165 wooden steps and some platforms leading up to the platform. On July 13, 1952, the inauguration of the Potzberg tower was celebrated with about 3000 guests. Since then, countless visitors have been on the summit of the Potzberg and also on the observation platform of the tower. The breathtaking view over the vast Palatinate Forest is well worth the climb. You can get a partial view in the image at the top of this page or under the panoramas. However, no graphic, no matter how beautiful, can replace a visit to the observation platform. In 1964/65, the road leading up to the Potzberg summit was also expanded. It created the conditions for a regular flow of visitors up to the 562 m high Potzberg tower. With the construction of the Potzberg hotel, the cozy Potzberg hut, which had housed hikers and visitors for years, had to make way.

Remigius Hiking Trail
The Remigius hiking trail is named after Saint Remigius, bishop of Reims, after whom the Remigius church, part of a monastery complex of the former Benedictine provostry St. Remigii on the Remigiusberg, was named. The region is also known as Remigiusland, which the Frankish king Childebert II gave to the diocese of Reims.
