Back to the town hall, follow Rue de la Rencontre on the right, towards the village exit. At the third intersection, turn left onto Route de l'Avenir. Follow the White-Yellow markings.
(1) At the information panel, turn right onto the grassy path that climbs. This path circles the Échelle meadow. Cross the orchid meadow.
(2) An information sign describes the conservation work of this dry meadow, exceptionally rich in biodiversity. At the end of the meadow, through a small gap in the hedge, reach the path below.
The path quickly ascends into the forest. At the first intersection, continue on the second path to the right. Reach the Mulet crossroads.
(3) Take the forest path to the left. Leave the 5km route that returns to Sommeval.
(4) After 400m, turn right to follow the forest road, heading due south. Continue on the path in the same direction for more than 1.5km. Thus follow the ridge of the Javernant communal forest to the end.
(5) The view over the plain begins to clear; turn right to go down the path to the ditch. Turn left to follow the ditch (from above). At the small bridge (height 277m), cross the ditch and continue following it from below.
At the first fork, turn right to descend the steep section.
(6) Turn left at the bottom of the valley. Pass a picnic area. Continue for 50m.
Beautiful view over the plateau of Sommeval dominated in the background by the Sommeval communal forest.
Go down the white path. At the bottom, turn right.
(7) Pass the pumping station to reach the Départementale 89. Turn left at height 187m, then right to climb via another white path towards the Sommeval forest.
Further on, make a left-right turn.
(8) At the next crossroads, height 200m, turn right.
Then take, for 300m, the GR®2 (path that circles the forests of Othe).
Quickly turn left to climb towards the forest. Walk about 600m.
(9) Make a hairpin turn on the small path to the right that winds through the woods.
(10) Cross the D72, continue on the path opposite. After 100m, turn right to go through the barrier then take the forest path straight on for 1.5km.
(11) Halfway, pass the hunting hut of La Billebaude. Leave the 10km route returning to Sommeval.
Continue straight on the forest path. Turn left then quickly right.
(12) After 500m, turn right then left.
(13) At the five-way crossroads, the Wolf Path crosses the Sheep Path. Turn right. Then take the GR® marked White-Red.
Descend straight to Sommeval via the Voie Creuse.
Pass a picnic area. Beautiful view over the village. Cross it to return to the town hall parking lot.
