A castle, a fortress, and a wild gorge are part of this beautiful hike on the northern edge of the Hunsrück.
The Ehrbachklamm, a side valley of the Moselle, is one of the most picturesque gorges in southwestern Germany. It was already developed in 1909 by the pharmacist Georg Frank from Boppard. The Rauschenburg, now only a ruin, was built in 1332 by Archbishop Balduin of Trier as a counterbalance to the Ehrenburg in the lower Ehrbach valley, to Waldeck Castle in the Baybach valley, and Schöneck Castle. The latter was first mentioned in documents as an imperial castle in 1222 and was expanded into a castle in the 19th century. Today it is privately owned by the painter W. Steinhausen.
