Starting from the house of the river, you cross a first urban stretch in the village of Paganico, from here you continue on the provincial road of Tollero, SP 48, up to the entrance of the actual trail, on a dirt surface, which will be on our left. We will cross the vast wooded area following the boundary of two historic local estates: to the left the Banditaccia and to the right the Paganico Estate. In the first stretch of forest on both sides of the path you can still notice the traces of charcoal pits: large circular areas where the dark ground clearly indicates the place where the cut wood was transformed into charcoal. Areas of Mediterranean scrub, cork oak groves, and Turkey oak woods follow one another, offering a great heterogeneity of hilly forest environment, where, if we are lucky, it will be possible to see Maremmana breed cattle grazing freely in the firebreak zones that open along the trail.
