▶ From the stable building at Baumschlagerreith 01, turn onto a forest road that—passing between the wildlife fences—leads slightly uphill into the forest. After 800 m, at a hairpin turn on the forest road, turn off the forest trail and follow a path up the steep embankment. Walk briefly along a ditch until you reach the stream. Cross the stream and follow the path leading uphill. Shortly afterward, you’ll cross the stream again, and a steeper ascent begins, winding through a beech-spruce forest. At the saddle, there is a viewpoint rock 02. If you climb it, you’ll be rewarded with a magnificent view of the secluded cirques of the Stoderkamm ridge in the Totes Gebirge.Afterward, the trail winds somewhat more gently along the slope before becoming steeper once more and leading up in switchbacks to the unstaffed Hochsteinalm (1,296 m). From there, you can already see the Lögerhütte 03, toward which you head through a sparse larch forest. The Lögeralm is an ideal spot to rest and have a snack, since you’ve already covered nearly all the elevation gain by this point. The panorama of the Stoder Ridge is reminiscent of Canadian landscapes. Peak after peak stretches out before you. Großer Priel (2,514 m), Spitzmauer (2,442 m), Ostrawitz (1,824 m), Brandleck (2,247 m), and Almkogel (2,116 m) form a distinctive mountain backdrop.Afterward, you hike briefly uphill across the alpine pasture and traverse the mountain slopes to the Schwarzgrabenbach 04. In this section, the trail is alpine in character, and rope anchors and iron pitons are installed at hazardous sections. The trail nestles idyllically against the ridges dotted with dolomite spires. You now hike downhill through mountain pine and young beech forest, and later through older beech stands, eventually reaching Poppensand 05, a massive gravel gully. The trail through the gravel area leads down to a forest road, which you follow to the right back to the starting point.
