The largely flat high-altitude path from the Fassajoch with the Plattkofel Hut in the east to the Mahlknecht Pass in the west is an old alpine pasture path, expanded around 1910 and since then also marked.
Approach and ascent: From Kompatsch on the western edge of the Seiser Alm (1844 m; hotels, parking) take the regular bus down to Saltria (1675 m; valley basin in the heart of the Seiser Alm, guest establishments) and then take the Florian chairlift southeastwards up to the William Hut (2100 m; on foot from Saltria about 1 hour). From there on a wide path southeastwards towards Zallingerschwaige (2037 m, alpine guesthouse) and past the Marmot Hut on path 9A steeply up to the Plattkofel Hut (2300 m; from William Hut just under 1 hour). High-altitude path: From the Plattkofel Hut over the western part of the Friedrich-August Path (marked 4 /594) on a largely flat, easy hike with only minor altitude differences, initially on the north side, then mostly on the south side, crossing the grassy slopes of the ridge westwards to the Mahlknecht Pass (2168 m). Then turn right onto path 4 B briefly down to the site of the former Dialer House and finally on path 8 and soon turning left onto path 7
