The Mollar Gargo loop

Route

: Head towards La Poya, sign indicating the coup de sabre, the Durand farm. Between two houses, go up the alley, pass the wooden barriers, the path climbs steadily, passage through the breach that separates a large rock block "this is the coup de sabre". Further on, a wooden safety barrier on the left protects us from the ravine for a view of Fontaine. Continue on the path to the Bois des Vouillants post at 460m, turn right and follow the yellow markers. Continue on the path which becomes very steep, passing in front of a block hollowed out by erosion, an owl-shaped statue was placed there and accompanies us on this climb to reach the sign for Ferme Durand at 850m.

The farm is located just below, a beautiful renovated building. Head towards Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte, Le Charvet. After a few bends and before the hamlet of Charvet, take the first small clearing on the left, pass the barbed wire gate. At the foot of the EDF pylon, follow the path on the left, after 300m arrival at Mollard Gargot at 1069m, geodetic marker. View of Fontaine and the Chartreuse through the high voltage lines…

The return path. Head towards the hamlet of Charvet, at the antenna take the path on the left, then follow south, enter the meadow under the houses, follow the power lines and at the second small passage on the left enter north into the second meadow, stay under the power lines, after 200m find on the right a well-marked passage in the hedge, this is the descent path which runs along the cliffs at first. This well-marked path leads us to a large bend of departmental road D106 which climbs to Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte. Immediately take a path on the left that begins with wooden logs like stairs. It leads us towards some houses, follow the asphalt for 30m, take the east path between two fences on a ridge. This passage offers us a beautiful panorama of the Belledonne range and the Chartreuse, follow the path to reach a paved area, continue to the left, pass the house and head towards Fontaine. Passage past the old mink farm, continue and follow the yellow markers, at the Froussard farm take north to Fontaine, then the Coup de Sabre. We find again the ascent path, follow it back to the start.
