The Hetter wet meadow area, through which this tour leads, is not only one of the most important breeding grounds for waterfowl in North Rhine-Westphalia, but also a resting and wintering area for migratory birds.
In Rees-Bienen, we walk past the church out of town towards the dam and then turn left to the road leading to Grietherort. Then we follow the road to the right until the right turn to the Grietherbusch campsite. At the next fork, we take the right path (A1, A2) that leads over the peninsula. At the height of a lock, where there is also a farm, we go around it and along the Grietherorter Altrhein. Soon after, the A1 turns left and then we follow the A2 to the right until the road to Grietherort, where we turn right. Before crossing the Altrhein arm, we turn left to a bird watching platform for waterfowl. Here there is a nice view over the Rhine arm to Wunderland Kalkar, an amusement park on the left bank of the Rhine. Back on the road, we continue our tour to Grietherort. We cross the Griethener Altrhein again and pass a campsite. On the Rhine, there is a refreshment option at the Inselgasthof Nass. Also, at the nearby Rhine bank, we have the option to visit Grieth by the passenger
