The Devil's Table near Hinterweidenthal is the landmark of the Palatinate Forest. The striking rock formation on the Etschberg consists of two 8 m high sandstone pillars with a massive "tabletop." Calculations have shown that it weighs 300 tons. There are also legends surrounding the Devil's Table. Sitting on the table, the devil is said to have disguised himself, playing the lute and singing, chasing after the beautiful women and girls from the Wieslautertal valley. The softer parts of the sandstone were eroded by wind and water and frost weathering, leaving only the harder rock standing, which led to the bizarre shapes.
From the "village square in Hinterweidenthal" we walk along Bahnhofstraße past the stop (former station) of the Wieslauterbahn and then turn left onto Im Handschuhteich street (yellow dot) to the Brauhaus.Afterwards, the yellow dot leads us past the Teufelstisch adventure park, where we join the Devil's Table Tour, and below the striking rock into the Salzbachtal valley. Salt was once transported and timber floated through this valley. At the creek, we can still discover the remains of the old timber rafting facilities. At a fork along the way, we leave the Devil's Table Tour and continue following the yellow dot through the valley to Salzwoog. There we leave the yellow dot and follow the Devil's Table Tour again between the 367 m high Hoher Kopf and the 254 m high Heidenhubel to the Schwamborn spring. On wonderful forest paths, we hike on the Devil's Table Tour into the Windelstal valley, where we keep left at the rest area and walk uphill through the forest to the Schöne Aussicht
