The route is never exposed, so apart from the effort, it is suitable even for beginners. Watch out for cars: the itinerary crosses hamlets and paved roads.Roadbook
The route starts from Tilly and crosses many hamlets of the municipality of Challand Saint Anselme.
The first trail marker to follow is no. 6 towards Orbeillaz: in this first part the path is little used and consequently not very visible. Once you reach the Ru Herbal, turn right and take trail no. 29 to Pesan (or Paysan), a hamlet that you will briefly cross following trail no. 3.
The next stage will be the settlement of Arbaz: you will reach it following trail no. 18. This part of the route is quite tough: the surface is a classic forest path but it has a nice slope.
Once you reach Arbaz, you must follow trail no. 24 to Col Tzecore: at this point, in good weather, there is a bar/restaurant and a picnic area where you can refresh yourself.
From Col Tzecore, follow a small off-route diversion (as shown in the photo) that leads to route no. 5, which will take you to Testa Comagna. This part of the trail is quite tough: the surface is a classic trail but the slope is constant until the destination; it is not well marked, instead of the classic yellow arrows of Valle d'Aosta, you have to follow orange 'trail markers' (as shown in the photo) painted on the trees. It is easy to lose the way, so be very careful. After many meters of elevation gain, you will finally reach Testa Comagna.
The effort will be rewarded: from there you will be able to admire a beautiful panorama of both Valle d'Aosta and part of Val d'Ayas. Monte Avic, Monte Bieteron, Corno Bussola, are just some of the peaks you will be able to see from there.
Once you have filled your heart enough with such beauty, you can also continue towards Col de Joux, further extending your itinerary.
To return to Tilly, you can follow the exact route taken on the way there, or you can make some detours on the paved road, as I did. In this way, you can visit other hamlets of Challand Saint Anselme, like Orbeillaz, and then return to the starting point.
