A long and challenging walk which climbs up the downs and generally follows the crest through forests, past ancient burial sites, the Tennyson Monument, and The Needles to Alum Bay. Superb views in many directions.

Roadbook
A - Start in Carisbrooke and on the B3401 Alvington Shute, turn left into Nodgham Lane where a sign indicates the start of the Tennyson Trail.
B - Keep following the pathway and follow the sign for Bridleway N136a to Brighstone Forest. Continue through the forest.
C - You will arrive at a gate and signpost showing left the Worsley Trail and Shorewell and right to the Tennyson Trail, turn right and head onto Brighstone Down. Continue along the down until you reach Freshwater Bay.
D - Once reaching Freshwater Bay the Trail will join the westbound Coastal Path.
E - Here have reached the highest point on Tennyson Down. You can either stay along the cliff edge or walk slightly inland. If walking the cliff edge, please take care and don't walk too close.
F - Once at the of the coastline, continue on the Tennyson Trail towards Alum Bay
G - Reach the end of the trail at Alum Bay

The start point of Cedar Hill stop is serviced by routes 6, 7 and 12 to and from Newport every 30 minutes.
End point of Alumb bay is serviced at the 7 and 12 routes to Newport every 30 minutes.
