The wooded ridge of Tamberg looks unimpressive at first glance. But when you stand at the highest point (Eibl) by the beautiful wooden summit cross, you understand why the locals love this grand viewpoint. The view from the Sengsengebirge to the majestic Spitzmauer and the Großer Priel is simply magnificent. The Spitzmäuerl is also worth a visit on the way.

From the parking lot we hike uphill, cross a path and choose the right path, which takes us over the scenic Spitzmäuerl to the Rieseralm. Further uphill, on the unmarked Dr. Hacklsteig, the Tamberg (Eibl) is reached via a subpeak. On the descent, we skip the path to Spitzmäuerl and walk directly back to the parking lot at the Rieserhof.

A great viewpoint mountain for the whole family, the small climbing section will especially appeal to children.

Route description: See also detailed "time-altitude diagram in the image gallery".

ASCENT: From the parking lot we hike uphill, cross a path at 985 m and reach a signpost at 1030 m. To the right is the Spitzmäuerl (1085 m), a rock tower that seems unreachable at first. The distinctive viewpoint rock can, however, be quickly climbed with some "handholds" and a cable protection. There is even a bench up there. Back on the path, a longer traverse follows on a narrow trail. Past a rock at about 1210 m, we reach the Rieseralm (1270 m) with a sign pointing to the Filzmoseralm. We continue straight uphill, reach a path at around 1360 m with a sign "Dr. Hackl-Steig". Now unmarked, continue straight ahead, descend briefly 15 vertical meters at 1470 m and finally reach the beautiful wooden summit cross of the Tamberg (1516 m), also called "Eibl." There we enjoy the magnificent view.

    630 vertical meters and 1 1/2 hours.

DESCENT: Return the same way to the sign at the Rieseralm 1270 m. Now take the lower path to the right, since we have already visited the Spitzmäuerl on the ascent. Quickly you are at the trail junction at 1030 m and at the parking lot at about 905 m. 15 vertical meters, 1 hour.

Overall: 650 vertical meters and 2 1/2 hours, route length ~5.4 km.
