The area east of Swalmen is actually the continuation of what can be seen on the German side in the Schwalmbruch near Brüggen and Elmpt, i.e., moor lakes, heath landscapes, and pine forests. Occasionally, we also find old border stones here, which remain as witnesses to the "old" border course.
From the parking lot at Herberg de Bos, we cross the L373 and follow the marking of the Water Hiking World (W) to the right into the forest. After passing Pension Groenewoud, the path turns left. We follow it straight for a while until at the fork we continue diagonally right towards Kasteel Hillenraad. Now we come to a junction where we can only continue to the right, as a private road blocks going straight ahead. We pass a border stone with a coat of arms, cross the road, and reach Kasteel Hillenraad, unfortunately not accessible as it is privately owned. We pass Hillenraad until the next turn left onto Graeterweg. Behind an Art Nouveau villa, we turn left and follow the road through a right curve (black and white triangle) towards Boukoul. At the next opportunity, we turn left, then after crossing a creek, continue right on Bergstraat out of town. At a crossing road, we keep diagonally left to a forest edge intersection. Here we take the path on the left marked with red-white signs.
