Summit hike Gamskarkogel - the highest grass mountain in Europe

The Gamskarkogel offers you a wonderful view of the Großarl and Gastein valleys. It is the highest grass mountain in Europe - so at 2,400 m you can still lie in the meadow.
The Gamskarkogel is one of the most beautiful summits in the region. You hike to the summit through lovely alpine meadows and can also comfortably chill in the grass at the summit.
The special thing about this mountain is that there is a managed hut next to the summit. There you can refresh yourself with soups and homemade cakes.
Author’s recommendation
You can ride the e-bike up to the Harbachalm. Then you save yourself 400 meters of elevation on foot.
Stopping at the Harbachalm is highly recommended!

Roadbook
You drive by car towards Hüttschlag. Before the tunnel, turn right up the mountain. Drive up as far as the parking lot in front of the barrier.
The first third is perfect for warming up, comfortably on a forest road. From the Harbachalm, the path goes beautifully through the forest and then across alpine meadows.
The path is very well signposted. At about 800 meters altitude, you reach a ridge and can see the entire Gastein Valley. A nice bench invites you to linger. The last stretch is quite steep again.
Once at the top, the view is breathtaking!
Right next to the summit is the Gamskarkogel hut.

If you take the post bus to Hüttschlag, then the route is about 1 hour longer on foot.Directions
