Sučany Castle

The medieval castle, or rather its small remains, tower above the village of Podhradie. The Sučany estate once extended as far as here. Do not be discouraged by the fact that you will hardly see anything of it. The results of a recent archaeological survey on an information board will sufficiently present the original structure to you.   

Three hiking trails start from Podhradie, you should choose the middle one - the green trail. Most of the way leads gently along a forest road with interesting stops. If you want to show children what it looks like when water bubbles out from the earth's interior, you will come across such a spring just a few meters away. Along the Vápenca stream, you will reach its source with benches. And a little further, an arrow will direct you to a narrow forest path between rock formations leading to the castle ruins. The reward for the final climb is not an amazing view but a pleasant rest while examining the uncovered foundations, which may be over 700 years old.
