The Strada dell'Angelo is a short route, entirely on paved road, that allows you to reach the church of the Blessed Virgin of the Angel, located just above the town of Piovene Rocchette, crossing woods and historical traces. The Strada Angelo winds on the southern slope of Monte Summano, a symbolic mountain of the Prealpi Vicentine, and offers a landscape experience alternating hilly environments, mixed woods, and open views over the Venetian plain.
After the first hairpin bends, the vegetation thins out and breathtaking views open towards the south: you can see Schio, Thiene, Santorso, and on clear days, even the Venetian lagoon on the horizon. The Little Church of the Blessed Virgin of the Angel appears suddenly, set in a panoramic clearing overlooking the plain: a place that naturally invites rest and silence. The panorama from here is wide and surprising: to the west is the Posina Valley, to the east the chain continuing towards Monte Novegno, and behind, the majestic outline of Summano, often wrapped in light clouds.
For the descent, it is recommended to follow the same road back.
Author’s recommendation
- In summer, it is better to avoid walking during the central hours of the day, as the paved road absorbs and reflects heat
- Bring a water bottle and a snack or a piece of fruit to eat before starting the descent
-
In summer, bring a hat and sunscreen: some parts are very exposed.
- Walk or pedal quietly to listen to the sounds of nature.
