The 45-kilometer-long hiking trail Strada Alta shows a completely different picture of the traffic-plagued Leventina valley than the widely known Gotthard traffic jam. Beautiful, flowery meadows, bubbling mountain streams, and pretty villages characterize the steeply sloping valley flank of the Upper Leventina. The gigantic engineering structures of the railway and road look fascinating from above. The famous hiking trail lies on the sunny left side of the Leventina valley and can be hiked in four daily stages. The route starts in Airolo, at the foot of the Gotthard Pass, rises up to 1800 m at the Ritomsee, and descends via Passo Forca towards Osco and Biasca.
