The final stage of the Strada alta Leventina begins at the San Antonio di Padova chapel from the 17th century on the southern outskirts of Anzonico and leads us parallel to the post road high above the Ticino valley to the charming village of Sobrio, where it ends. Afterwards, we cross the Vallone gorge, which forms the scenic highlight of this third stage of the Strada alta. Especially in spring, when the broom blooms, this section provides a particularly impressive experience. Further on, we pass the alpine pastures Monti di Bodio and Monti di Bollegio and Diganengo before descending steeply to Polleggio.
We first walk to the right past the church of Anzonico, on a farm road or hiking trail above the road through forest and meadows with a view downstream to the alpine huts of Segno, 1093 m. There stands the very impressive chapel with a free-standing bell tower, dedicated to Saint Ambrogio. The path then descends to the village of Cavagnago, 1016 m (bus connection). At the parish church in the village, we cross the road towards Sobrio and follow the footpath running parallel below the road through forest and over some ditches to the sunny terrace where the villages of Ronzano and Sobrio are located. Below the small village of Ronzano lies the free-standing parish church of San Lorenzo with cemetery and stations of the cross. Heinrich Bauregger, geboren 1951 im Berchtesgadener Land, studierte Germanistik und Geschichte (M.A.). Nach seinem Studium war er viele Jahre in Buchverlagen tätig (unter anderem auch beim Rother Bergverlag). Von Kindheit an in den Bergen wandernd unterwegs, lebte er seine Passion zunächst in den Alpen aus, dann folgten zahlreiche Trekkingtouren in den Bergen der Welt (Himalaya, Ostafrika, Mexiko, Anden).
