Storhornet is Oppdal’s most visited mountain and while winter is undoubtedly the high season, Storhornet makes for a fine hike in the warmer months as well. From the top you’ll find extensive views of Trollheimen.
At the top sits a small stone cabin and Storhornet is the only mountaintop in Trollheimen with such a structure. Between 2,500 and 3,000 adventurers visit every year. The cabin is a handy shelter on colder days and in good weather you can lean against the sun-warmed stone walls and enjoy the view.
Oppdal has a range of accommodation options available, including cabins, hotels, and Airbnbs.

Roadbook
From the parking lot at Breen gård, head north up Breeslivegen road before joining the trail. The trail ascends the mountain gradually, through a birch wood parallel to Breesbekken stream.
Once you’re over the treeline you’ll find nice views over Oppdal. The terrain becomes mossy and is easy to cross. As you get closer to the top, it will become more stony underfoot. Upon reaching the top you’ll discover panoramic views over Trollheimen, Sunndalsfjella, Snøhetta, and Oppdal.
Return along the same trail.
Directions
The trail starts at the parking lot by Breen gård, “Breen farm”. Follow road 70 west from Oppdal for nearly 11 km until you come to Festa. Turn right where the signs direct you towards Gjevilvassdalen. After passing the supermarket, continue to the left. Cross the bridge over the Festa river and keep to the right at the junction. After approximately 800 meters you’ll find Breen gård on the right-hand side of the road. There’s a small fee for parking.
